Preparing for the iTTi Teacher Trainer Certification Test. Passing it the first time around. THE NATURE AND VALUE OF WORLD ENGLISHES, DIALECT, AND VARIATION The term, WORLD ENGLISH, became popular in the 1960s and has increasingly become a way to refer to English, which dominates many aspects of the political and economic progress of the world. The term World Englishes describes American English, British English, Indian English, South African English, and, according to many, the English used by other people to communicate in world trade, travel, and politics. This makes it difficult for teachers to decide which English to teach. Estimates suggest that non-native English speakers outnumber native speakers. The question “Whose English are we talking about?” becomes a very important topic in the ESOL classroom. The Indian linguist Braj Kachru describes the English-speaking world as you can see it in below picture While the Inner Circle comprises traditional English-speaking…

The Health Pass or Pass Sanitaire is essentially a way of proving your Covid-19 status in order to enter public events and establishments. Initially launched in July 2021, the Health Pass has now become French law and will continue to be used until a minimum of July 31st, 2022, although it may well be extended beyond this date. Watch France 24https://youtu.be/LMFvb9RkYh4as it shows the Health Pass in action. As the USA and other non-EU countries are not part of the EU digital travel pass, those countries’ vaccination certificates do not have QR codes that are compatible with the French health pass. This means that visitors from outside the European Union need to obtain a European code before they can use the health pass. Who can get the pass? This applies to anyone who was vaccinated outside the EU. What passport you hold is largely irrelevant, although French citizens vaccinated in the…

Teaching English is a booming career and one of the most rewarding ones. On top, you get to see the world as you move from country to country. You have the option to choose between a top salary and an amazing experience such as in Dubai or Qatar and countries which are poorer and may need your help urgently.  Here the reward is that you help others improve their life. While you may never become a millionaire when teaching English, the salary that is paid in many countries allows for a comfortable lifestyle with travel during the vacation time. Although some countries and regions still pay very little (such as Thailand, Cambodia, or Central America), other countries, particularly teaching jobs in the Middle East and Asia, are compensating English teachers with amazingly excellent pay and benefits. Qatar has become the richest country in the world. It attracts visitors and people who would like to work there due to the amazing salaries that are paid in this country. So, we even have a TEFL training center in Doha to allow prospective TEFL trainees to get certified next to the best-paying job opportunities. With all of that said, Qatar is an Islamic country. As people coming from different cultures, we must learn to follow the rules while staying there. Qatar exercises much more freedom within Islam than other Islamic nations, yet, there are certain don’ts. 1. Don’t Take Photos or Record a Video in Public. It is not permitted to take photos of people or video-record them. Likewise, you cannot photograph religious and military sites. You risk being arrested and jailed. If you are a reporter, you must obtain a permit from the Qatar News Agency to bring…

France has a bit of an international reputation for being very protective of its language – but how easy is it to move here if your French is still at the very beginner level? How much French will I need for my daily life in France? Well, it very much depends on your personal circumstances, but also where you are. In famous tourist locations such as the French Riviera or Paris, English is widely spoken. But don’t expect everyone to speak English, especially in areas off the beaten tourist path. France regularly comes out towards the lower end of levels in English-language competency in countries around Europe , and older people may not speak any English at all. Starting a conversation with a French person in English and assuming they understand you is considered absolutely rude. So, if your French is poor, look up a phrase that can express what…

One of the most common reasons to become a teacher is to make a difference in the lives of as many students as you can.  I worked in different fields, but I was not satisfied with my life because I did not like the work I did.  I became a teacher because I loved the profession of teaching. A teacher is an educator. You learn a lot by teaching. The love of teaching inspired me to choose this profession. How to Move to France and Stay (Legally) Here

France is the most visited country in the world. Many people dream of staying there and look for ways of how to accomplish that. If you dream of moving to France, then you may have to deal with boring practicalities such as visas, residency cards, and health insurance. Here’s our guide to moving to France and ensuring that you can stay here. When looking at coming to France, there are two main things that are important–your nationality and what you intend to do here (work, study, retire, etc.) The rules on paperwork vary considerably depending on these factors. EU- OR SCHENGEN-ZONE PASSPORT HOLDERS If you have the passport of any EU country, including Ireland, or a Schengen-Zone country then you are covered by EU Freedom of Movement and can move to France with minimal paperwork. This applies to dual nationals as long as they use their EU passport for all…

When students join our TEFL course in Paris , they explore Paris in greater detail. After all, it is the most visited city in the world, and it is lovely in so many ways that time goes by rather quickly during the three months the tourist visa allows you. Most of the TEFL trainees stay in Paris because they believe it is too expensive to visit other French cities/regions. Here is a very inexpensive travel solution to explore: the world bus. Few people know about it. The world bus is a night bus. So, if you want to travel France on a shoestring budget, the budget night bus is your friend. Sure, travelling the road for 10 hours straight is hardly the most comfortable experience, but how else can you expect to travel across the entire country for under €15, especially on a weekend or public holiday? And it’s not…

Travel from the US to France The USA is currently on France’s orange list. It means there is a difference between vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers. Vaccinated travelers can travel to France for any reason and do not need a Covid test. Vaccination can be proved at the border with a CDC vaccination certificate. They have to present a declaration stating that they do not have Covid symptoms and have not been in contact with any Covid patients. Unvaccinated travelers can only travel if they meet the criteria for “essential travel.” This includes French citizens and residents returning home, students beginning academic studies in France, and essential work trips, but does not include tourism, family visits, or visits to second homes. Unvaccinated travelers who qualify under the essential reasons rules must present the following documents at the border: a negative Covid test less than 72 hours old as well as the…

The Problem With Education Is Faster Horses

Adam Matuszewski Founder of Your Agora, educator, writer Education needs to make a big leap forward. Our current methods are not up to the challenge. There is an apocryphal quote attributed to Henry Ford that goes, “If I had asked my customers what they wanted, they would have told me a faster horse.”1 It’s the kind of thing “disruptors” like to say as it reinforces their sense of being visionaries able to see what their critics can’t. So how is one to tell what is truly innovative thinking? A good starting point is to consider how well the current solutions and paradigms are working. What will be argued here is that education is now at a point where improvements within the existing framework are seeing diminishing returns. Education needs to leap forward, and our current horses are not up to the challenge. As industrial nations move into post-industrial economies, educational…
