Little did we know about Madagascar when we met the first people from there. Remembering geography, we knew it is in Africa. What we then learned about Madagascar was a sheer endless, awe-inspiring discovery of a magical island that is 260 miles off the coast of southeast Africa in the Indian Ocean.

It’s a little hard to get here. There are few flights from Paris and Johannesburg, and they take some time. It explains it that Madagascar is not overrun by tourists. Over millions of years, this island had time to evolve in perfect isolation.
Madagascar is unspoiled and spectacular. It is unlike any other part of the continent. Yet it manages to look like an all-in-one mix of African countries. It has the azure waters of Zanzibar, the mangroves of Congo, the rolling green hills of South Africa’s wild coast, and the fiery sunsets of the Serengeti. Madagascar is a jewel for any outdoor and wildlife enthusiast.
iTTi Madagascar is located in the heart of Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar and a city of 1.8 million people. It occupies two large floors of modern business buildings that feature elevators. The two schools are very close to each other. They can be easily reached by public transportation (buses) or taxis.

The classrooms are very spacious with large windows. They feature white boards. Secretaries work in the office. They will be happy to support you. The schools themselves do not feature cafeterias; however, they are conveniently located in the business district of the city. There are many food stores and restaurants around them, so you can easily get food during the breaks or at the end of the day.

The course starts at 9:00 am and finishes at 4:00 pm Mondays through Fridays.
iTTi Madagascar is looking for foreign English teachers and teacher trainers to complete their staff. If you want to work at our school over there, please submit your resume to ablumberg@www.internationaltefltraininginstitute.com

Madagascar is not only far away, it is also a little difficult to get there. There are only a few airlines that fly to Madagascar, and the trip is very long with stopovers on the way. To discover the wonders this island off the coast of Africa has to offer, we invite you to join us for our TEFL certification in Antananarivo over there. After your TEFL training, our iTTi TEFL center in Madagascar will help you get a work permit and land a paid job in one of the schools over there if you fulfill the requirements of the course.

In 2003, the government introduced the teaching of English in primary schools. That resulted in an immediate need for English instructors. Besides primary schools, you will also be able to find work in language schools and education centers for adult learners. The good part of paid positions is that the schools may probably give you accommodation.

Madagascar will accept you with a high school diploma, perfect English, and a TEFL certificate as a teacher in language centers. If you want to work in an international school or at the college level, your BA/BS, perfect English, and a TEFL certificate in your pocket are required. Those are the requirements for a work visa. If you decide to teach English in Madagascar, please do so by educating yourself to really make a difference in this country.
You don’t go to Madagascar to become rich as an English teacher. Your compensation will be enough, so you can pay for the food, clothes, and rent (if not included in the package) you need, some travel money to get around on the island, and a little bit to put aside. If you decide for teaching English in Madagascar, you do so to help the mostly poor people improve their living standard, to help the country improve their education at schools, and to explore a unique, tropical paradise while doing so.
