Ahmad Fawzi Shamsi is a faculty member at Eastern Mediterranean University’s Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School, specializing in English Language Teaching. Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam is a renowned Applied Linguist and Sociolinguist with over 30 years of experience in English Language Teaching (ELT). His extensive career has significantly impacted several fields, including language teaching, English Medium Instruction (EMI), language policy, gender and language teaching, and learner attitudes.
Prof. Osam has made substantial contributions through numerous articles, book chapters, and a comprehensive dictionary in Applied Linguistics and Testing. In Sociolinguistics, his research has focused on the linguistic dynamics of Cyprus. Notably, in 2006, he served as guest editor for the International Journal of the Sociology of Language by Mouton De Gruyter, dedicating an entire issue to language issues in northern Cyprus. His recent research includes supervising MA theses on native-speakerism, Kurdish students’ attitudes toward native and non-native teachers, and Tanzanian perceptions of Swahili and English.
His supervision of PhD dissertations covers a broad range of critical topics in language education, such as the role of identity in teaching, educator effectiveness, the implementation of EMI in higher education, and the teaching of less commonly taught languages. His research also examines the status of English in various sociopolitical contexts, including Iran, highlighting its global significance. Currently, Prof. Osam is an Emeritus Professor in the four-year TESOL teacher education program at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). His academic leadership extends beyond teaching, as he has held several prominent administrative roles, including multiple terms as Head of the English Language Teaching Department, two terms as Dean of the Faculty of Education, and six years as Rector at a prestigious university. Since 2018, he has been a member and Councillor at the Community of Mediterranean Universities.
Outside of academia, Prof. Osam is a dedicated advocate for animal welfare, actively supporting organizations focused on improving the lives of stray animals. He is also an enthusiastic sailor, having crossed the Mediterranean Sea on numerous occasions. Additionally, he is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Profedd, a company specializing in Professional Education and Development.
How to Apply for a TESOL Course
Step 1
To begin the admission process for iTTi Turkey, you must first choose your start date, complete the online application form, and pay a deposit of USD $500.
Step 2
An iTTi Enrollment Counselor will then contact you with instructions on how to complete the required English proficiency assessment test. If you are a non-native speaker, you must obtain a B2/C1 level. A certificate will be provided by the iTTi School of English upon request.
Step 3
Once you are notified of your acceptance into iTTi Turkey your remaining tuition balance is due 30 days prior to your course start date.
