"To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries."

WHY TAKE A TESOL TEFL IN medellin

Medellin is the second largest, most progressive city in Colombia. International travelers and others say, “Medellin is one of the most beautiful cities in South America.” The home of orchids, parks and tropical birds, Medellin lies cradled in the Aburra Valley, bisected by the Medellin River which runs North and South. Nightlife, called “Rumba”, takes place in many locations, beginning on Thursday night, and running “hot and heavy” through Saturday night.

With an International (MDE), and an Inter Colombia (EOH), in-town airport, travel agencies report that Medellin serves as a popular central air hub for tourists. Buses, taxis or the world class METRO rail are all safe, inexpensive, modes of convenient transportation. You’ll find hundreds of good lodging and restaurant options to choose from. At 1,600 meters, the annual temperature is perfect. No need for A/C.

With a population of nearly three million people, Medellin now occupies the 66th place among the world’s most populated cities. Its inhabitants are called Paisas. They have a well deserved reputation as hard-working, hard-playing people of culture, sincerity and friendliness. They are filled with pride over their cities’ transportation systems, universities, parks, museums, architecture, sports teams, diversified manufacturing base, communications, shopping facilities and the area’s cleanliness. Even the efficiency of their governments and utilities will usually elicit words of praise! Most of the national beauty queens and top fashion models in Colombia call Medellin their hometown. Paisas are of many races and colors, just like the beautiful flowers which are grown around here and shipped overnight from Medellin’s International Airport to many countries around the world to bring joy to people.

Our tefl medellin institute

Our office is located in Laureles neighborhood, it is widely loved by travelers, and rightly so, since it’s named one of the best neighborhoods in Medellin. You never have to wonder what to do in Laureles, as it rivals El Poblado for the thriving nightlife and delectable food options, but surpasses El Poblado for not being a tourist hub.

A centrally located Medellin neighborhood, Laureles is in walking distance to many creature comforts for the modern day Paisa and traveler. It’s no wonder why we chose the Laureles neighborhood as a location for our iTTi TESL Training Center , near the Floresta metro station. Laureles has a perfect blend of traditional Colombian life and easy access to shopping plazas, malls, universities, markets, parks, cafes and restaurants. The neighborhood includes the popular party streets La Setenta and La Treinta-tres, both are stretches of bars and restaurants where you can find almost anything you’re looking to get into.

iTTi Colombia is part of the International TEFL Training Institute Group, a global teacher-training organization. We offer a comfortable environment to enhance the learning experience.

work in medellin as a tefl trainer

ATEFL job in Colombia as a native or non-native certified English teacher is an excellent opportunity. It is a country waiting for tourism to come back, and one thing holding it back is the lack of English knowledge throughout most of the country.

Medellin used to be known for drug lords and violence, and Bogota was one of the most violent cities. The Colombian government has worked hard to change that. Both cities have become popular tourist escapes. The people are welcoming to everyone, and it is easy to get sucked into the casual laid-back life, wherever you are, and whether it is because you choose to teach English abroad in Colombia, or just visiting.

Finding a Job
Just like you would expect anywhere in the world, finding a job can be difficult if you don’t know where to look. We as iTTi Colombia have alliances with several school and Language center to make the process of finding a job easier. Colombia has large EFL institute chains. Such schools are popular places to work as TEFL instructors. Private lessons are also a promising TEFL career, and the average rate can be anywhere from $12 – $27 an hour. Upon successful completion of your TEFL certification program with our institute, we will stay by your side until you land a job. We will support you with a total of four interviews at Colombian schools.

Classroom & Work Culture
In general, Colombian teachers are not strict, and the education system may seem very lax. Expect meetings to start late and students to disregard the clock as they stroll in tardy. Student-teacher relationships are close and are usually on a first-name basis. Dress code is directly related to your school and can be anywhere from shorts and t-shirts to professional attire. Greetings are important to such a welcoming culture, and it is custom for women to kiss on the cheeks and men to shake hands.

When and Where to Look for Jobs
The most popular places to find jobs are in cities such as Medellin, Bogota and Barranquilla. Medellin is a booming city in the interior of the country. It is the center of fashion and architecture. The Paisa people, those living in and around Medellin, have distinct qualities. They are known for their friendliness and overall love for life. Paisas are very welcoming people, and it is easy to find friends wherever you go.

Bogota is the capital city and has all the diversity of New York with distinct districts. Barranquilla is the least popular for tourism, but there are still many opportunities in this coastal city.

Throughout the country, it is not easy to find jobs on line; although it can be accomplished with effort. Arriving in the country to find a job is risky; however, it is the best way to land the job you like.

You can find a teaching position in Colombia all year round. There is no special hiring season. Colombian schools need excellent English teachers. The only difficult time to get hired would be between Christmas and New Year because schools close for the holidays.

Required Qualifications
Teachers interested in working in Colombia at a small, private language institute may only need a TEFL certificate. To obtain a work visa, a higher salary and all kinds of benefits at a more prestigious school or university requires at least a TEFL certificate, a BA and some previous teaching experience.

Salary & Cost of Living
A foreign teacher can expect to earn anywhere from $1,000 to $3,200 a month, depending on your qualifications and location. Larger school chains offer to pay for housing and airline tickets depending on the location you apply to and your contract with them. If housing isn’t included, just ask the school faculty whom you are applying with; everyone is friendly and happy to help make you feel comfortable in your new home. The typical Colombian work day consists of a work week from Monday through Saturday.
